Cherokee Casino
2015: The casino and hotel will open in 2015. A specific date has not been announced.
The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians are building the new Valley River Casino near Murphy in Cherokee County. The location is an 85-acre tract of tribal land in the western North Carolina mountains near U.S. 19/74. This is an hour from Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort and two hours from Chattanooga, Knoxville, and Atlanta.
The estimated cost will be $110 million and includes 60,000 square feet of gaming space.
April 2013: The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians announced plans to build a second casino in the Murphy-Andrews area about an hour’s drive southwest of Harrah’s Cherokee resort.
October 15, 2013: The tribe celebrated the ground-breaking ceremony for their new Valley River Casino & Hotel.
